Fuquay Mineral Springs Park - Fuquay-Varina, NC

The Fountain of Youth. The Ganges River. The Dead Sea. The Blue Lagoon. Whether mythical, based in religion, or based on science, all of these locations are bodies of water that are believed to have some kind of healing or regenerative properties. While you’d have to travel a long way to get to most of these, did you know our area once had its own allegedly healing mineral spring?

While plowing his farm in 1858, Stephen Fuquay discovered a natural spring that had a high mineral content and was believed to have healing properties. The spring grew so popular based on the belief that it had healing powers, the resort town of Fuquay Springs grew around it to accommodate the visitors. Today in Fuquay-Varina, a park sits on the site of the mineral spring, including a small area where you can play in the water. To be determined if it has any actual healing properties. 😉😂

The Fuquay Mineral Spring Park is rather small, but don’t rule the park out for a visit due to this. Peter had a great time playing in the water. The park is well shaded with paved walkways. It would be a great spot for a picnic meal - bring your own or get take out from one of the great restaurants just up the block, like The Mill, Mason Jar Tavern, or Vicious Fishes Brewery. Or you could visit the park in conjunction with a history lesson, learning about some of the famous locations mentioned above and then visiting our local historic gem. The opportunities are truly endless for the park if you’re willing to get creative.
