New year, new park! 🥳
Recently the Town of Cary renovated R.S. “Dad” Dunham Park with brand new equipment, and we finally found time to check it out on the last day of 2024.
Two new play structures, one designed for older children and one for younger, replaced the old pieces. A small set of swings as well as some small wiggly riding structures were also added. Dunham Park and the structures there before were never large to begin with, and what has replaced the old is about the same in size.
The sand pit still remains by the smaller children’s play structure, and there is plenty of mulch to go around at the park.
For those who may not know, this is now the park in Cary that has a pump track for bikes, scooters, roller blading, etc. - see photo 10. (Previously Carpenter Park had this, and quite a few people have messaged wondering if it went to another park, and where.) The park is also home to various sports courts, like basketball and tennis.
Some other things we like about this park are the bathrooms being right at the playground, benches for seating, some shade from surrounding trees during portions of the day, and it is right down the road from Cary Regional Library. (While Downtown Cary Park is literally right at the library, sometimes you just want something a bit more cozy and low key, and this park fits the bill.)
Some things that aren’t the best, but not dealbreakers, are the smaller parking lot and proximity of the play area to the main road.
And while I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer because I am always grateful to the Town for investing in these public resources, I was very sad that they did not go with a dinosaur theme upon renovating this park. Previously, the park had some cute dino pieces, and honestly, we just really miss them.
