We don’t make it south as much as we’d like, but we sure are excited that we discovered this hidden gem in Fuquay-Varina: the Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Park.
Sitting on 28 acres, this park has 2 miles of trails, bridges, informative signs, a small amphitheater, and what we loved the most, a few areas where you can get right down to the creek.
The trails, while not really stroller friendly, are mostly shaded making this a great spot to get your kids started on hiking and then have the reward afterward of hanging out and playing in the creek.
Important tip: according to the map, there are 2 bridges that cross the creek. However, when we went, the bridge called “Overlook Bridge” that connects the Creekside Trail to Laurel Lane no longer existed. (See our stories for a video of this.)
Other logistics:
• Smaller sized parking lot
• Bathrooms available
