Eno River State Park Welcome Center - Durham, NC

Writer: PeterPeter

Welcome to the home of Possum Pete: the Eno River State Park Welcome Center and education room. Opened in July 2023, and just down the main road from the Fews Ford access point, this is an amazing spot to take a pit stop and cool off on your visit to the park. (Yes, it’s air conditioned!!)

We loved the many hands-on activities available in this education room, as well as the views out into the forest. The park had fresh specimens to examine with the microscope. The kids enjoyed touching the animal pelts and antlers the most. The variety of taxidermy animals to look at was neat. We enjoyed the bear facts board and learned a few things. And this is definitely a spot we would come to enjoy a packed lunch on the picnic tables under the awning outside.

Besides for the education room, don’t miss the free colorable bookmarks on the shelf when you enter the visitor center. Get your @ncstateparkspassport stamp. And, we also noticed they have a free fishing tackle loan program, with little poles for kids. The people at the desk were very friendly and welcoming, so feel free to ask them all your questions.

And last, but not least, the bathrooms here were nice and clean. 😁
