Having a limit of 10 photos for a post is just not fair when it comes to sharing a place like the JC Raulston Arboretum. And then having to pick just one cover photo? The worst.
This beautiful local gem was begun in 1975 by JC Raulston through the Department of Horticultural Science at NC State to “serve as a living laboratory for students and faculty, and a resource for professionals in the green industry and for the public.” The Arboretum’s 10+ acres have received national acclaim for being one of the largest and most diverse collections of plants adapted to life in the Piedmont. These are a lot of fancy words to tell you that there is something amazing around every corner at Raulston Arboretum!
Recently reopened after being closed due to COVID, you can visit Monday through Friday. We’d recommend getting to the Arboretum early if possible, as it can be popular and the parking lot is relatively small. Street parking is also available outside the lot on Beryl Road.
Some other logistics:
• Bathrooms, garden maps, and other resources are available at the visitors’ center right by the parking lot.
• Multiple paths are paved, and those that aren’t are generally a hard-packed gravel and relatively easy for strollers.
• There is a good amount of tree coverage, but also some open areas. We recommend sunblock, hats, bug spray, and a water bottle.
