The forecasted high is 89* today and 92* tomorrow, so I think it’s safe to say summer is officially here, and that also means we’ve made it to splash pad season! 😎☀️👙💦
There are definitely a few great splash pads in the Triangle, but today I’m here to tell you if you go to any splash pad this season, pack your car and head to this one at Kiwanis Family Park in Sanford. It’s a straight shot down and 2 minutes off US-1, making it a lot closer than you might think for many people in the Triangle. It only took us 30 minutes to get there, which was the same amount of time we traveled the day before get to a park in Raleigh. 🤯
Besides for the splash pad, I was excited to see an accessible playground also on the property. I was honestly amazed by some of the accessible features, like an accessible merry-go-round and a swing specifically for wheelchairs, both of which I’ve never seen before.
This whole park is an absolute gem. There are bathrooms, water fountains, and plenty of parking. The playground turf is the squishy, forgiving ground. There are covered pavilions at both the splash pad and nearby the playground. A large field area to run around. And a food truck selling sweets and frozen ices even pulled up while we were there.
My only knock on this park would be that when on the playground, there’s not much coverage from the sun. Hats, clothes coverage, and sunblock recommended.
