🚨New park alert!🚨
Earlier this year when researching the new Town of Cary Carpenter Fire Station Road Park, I also noticed there was mention of another new park in the works. I have been stalking this one pretty steadily for months waiting to see when the playground would be finished, and it finally looks like it is.
Welcome to the McCrimmon Parkway Neighborhood Park located at 3870 Cary Glen Blvd.
While I did put the playground space as the first photo here, the playground is small and overall it does seem like the main focus of this park is the sports courts (tennis and pickleball) and the vast community garden.
About the garden from the Town’s website: “McCrimmon Community Garden is a communal green space managed by the Town of Cary that offers garden beds for annual rental and educational garden beds for groups and volunteers. Gardeners are allowed to grow whatever they like, and the garden boasts diverse veggies, fruits, and flowers throughout the year.” There is plenty growing there right now and while it was not open to peruse, you could see a lot of it through the fence.
As mentioned before, the playground is small but does have some accessible features, such as squishy ground and an accessible slide with a paved walkway to it. The playground also follows the trend we are seeing of more rope-based play equipment. As you can also see, there was at least an attempt made for some shade covers over the playground.
Just past the playground is a small natural play space and seating area with gorgeously carved wooden benches. From here, there are also some pathways, both paved and not.
Also nearby is a set of hammocks, which when viewed from above, are in the shape of flowers on a vine. I think this is a cute idea, but the hammocks have zero shade coverage, which does not seem ideal.
A few other logistics:
- Parking is available in the park and on roads outside the park.
- Bathroom is centrally located at the covered shelter with picnic tables by the playground.
- Mostly stroller friendly except for mulched nature play area.
Have you been to this new park yet? Let us know in the comments!
