Sassafras All Children's Playground - Raleigh, NC

Sassafras All Children’s Playground is undoubtedly one of the crowning jewels of the Raleigh Parks system, if not the Triangle as a whole. What makes this playground so special is that it was built to be inclusive to children of all abilities - including those in wheelchairs. Much of the playground equipment is accessible through wide, low-incline ramps. The area under the playground equipment has a fairly wide berth as well, allowing for wheelchairs to fit and maneuver there, too. There is not one, but 4 larger swings for special needs children. There is an adjustable basketball hoop. There is even a small area dedicated to braille. Oh, and we almost forgot: 2 ziplines. Yes, ziplines. (And there are so many more features we’re not even listing!)

We’ve tried our best here to put how awesome this playground is into words, but honestly, it’s tough. Wide, low-incline ramps doesn’t exactly sound exciting , so we’d highly recommend checking out our stories on this one, as we feel they tell the story of this fantastic playground a bit better. (Or, of course, you can always stop by!)

As you can imagine, this is a stroller-friendly playground. The same features that make this playground accessible also make it a great spot for new walkers and younger toddlers.

The bathrooms are open and are located a short walk behind the playground. There is a paved loop around the playground that will take you back there - so you can take it left or right from the playground, and you’ll end up by the bathroom shack.

Besides for the playground, there are 2 small boardwalks on the paved loop behind the playground that are worth checking out. From the boardwalks, you can also access an unpaved trail that goes back further into the wooded area of the park. We don’t much about the trail, since we were pretty tuckered out by the time we discovered it, but we’re hoping to go back and check it out soon.

Plenty of parking was available.
