We don’t travel all that often, but when we do, y’all know we’re going to find a park for you! 😂
Recently, we were finally - after literally years of attempts - able to take a trip down to Myrtle Beach, SC to use my in-laws time share with them.
While there, we discovered Savannah’s Playground, which is easily one of the most amazing accessible and inclusive playgrounds I have ever seen. Think Raleigh’s Sassafras All-Children’s Playground, but MORE.
More accessible swings.
More accessible zip lines.
More and longer accessible ramps.
More accessible rolling slides.
More features for small kids.
More stand-alone, low-to-the-ground accessible features.
More musical chimes.
It felt like the playground just kept going on and on, and there was something for everyone here. It also looks like more has been added to the playground as time has gone on since part of the playground is in one style, and another section is comprised of the newer rope-based playground equipment we are starting to see a lot of here in the Triangle. (Think Apex’s Pleasant Park, Cary’s Carpenter Fire Station Road Park, Bond Park, Mills Park.)
On the park’s website, it also looks like more additions to the park are planned for the future, like a splash pad.
Some logistics:
* Bathrooms were located right in the playground.
* Multiple benches available around the park, including some swinging ones.
* The playground is located back with some other sports buildings and fields, and we felt there was good signage on the roads directing us specifically by name to the playground.
* Plenty of parking available at the gym facility next to the playground.
* The park is not completely shaded, but does have some shade structures. It can get a bit hot and humid, so we’d recommend going earlier or later in the day in the summer months.
* There was some fencing, but I can’t remember if it was completely enclosed. I did also notice that the entrance gate was left open while we were there.
Have you been to Myrtle Beach? If so, what are some of your favorite spots? Let us know in the comments!
PS, part 2 is coming with another cool Myrtle Beach spot, stay tuned!
