Strickland Road Neighborhood Park - Raleigh, NC

Writer: PeterPeter

Swipe left for Fall colors! šŸšŸ‚šŸ˜

Weā€™re finally there, friends, and weā€™ve been having some unseasonably warm weather, so it is a great time to get out and see that beautiful foliage.

Strickland Road Neighborhood Park is another one of those spots Iā€™ve driven by countless times, but was finally able to make it out there with Ruth this past July. Iā€™ve been holding onto it because there are short trails in the woods there that we didnā€™t get to explore the first time around, but I was finally able to swing back and check them out.

While Strickland Road is a neighborhood park, or what some may call a pocket park because it is small, it really is versatile. It is great in the summer due to the abundant shade over the playground equipment and play areas.

It is also great right now because the short trails, 0.2 and 0.45 miles respectively, give you the fall colors you would expect on a longer hike, but accessible for smaller kids. You can find a barebones map for the trails in this post, and on the bulletin board when you walk into the park. My only complaint about the trails is that they are not marked the best. I think this ends up being fine because they are not long at all and youā€™re not really going to get lost, but this might be frustrating to some. If this concerns you, try the .2 mile one first and see how it goes. You can pretty much still see the playground area from that entire trail.

Other logistics:

ā€¢ Medium parking lot.

ā€¢ Port-o-potty for bathroom, located as youā€™re walking in from the parking lot.

ā€¢ Some squishy ground around the play equipment, but also a sand pit and other natural surfaces like grass, dirt, mulch.

ā€¢ Many benches and seating options. Seems like a great park for a picnic.

ā€¢ The trails are trails, meaning youā€™re walking through the woods and there are tree roots. Be careful for them.

ā€¢ Coming into the park is paved and stroller-friendly. Trails are not.

Overall, Iā€™m happy to add this to our easy fall colors parks. Where do you like to see the fall colors in the Triangle? Let us know in the comments!
