Sunflowers... in November?! - NC Museum of Art - Raleigh, NC

Writer: PeterPeter

What if I told you I took these photos yesterday? You’d laugh at me, right? Well, welcome to Sunflowers 2.0 happening RIGTH NOW at the North Carolina Museum of Art’s Ann & Jim Goodnight Outdoor Park. 🌻

Yes, this is not a drill. This is real, and I highly encourage you to go soak up this joy now before we really head into colder temps, and the sunniness of sunflowers leaves us until 2025.

The field you see here in the first photo is by the Vollis Simpson whirligig, which you will clearly be able to see right when you pull into NCMA outdoor park’s parking lot. The outdoor park also has a small welcome center by this area, which includes bathrooms, so nearby this art is a great place to park.

Additionally, earlier this year, NCMA installed some incredible musical swings and benches - yes, musical - that are also right by this area. Swing on the swings and twirl the benches to make your own beautiful melodies.

More sunflowers and zinnias can also be found by the Ellipse, which is in toward the middle of the park, close to the parking lot. (See photos 3 & 4.) This is also a great spot to look out over the park and see the fall colors.

NCMA’s outdoor park does have many paved walkways, and the walkways to get to these areas with the sunflowers ARE paved, so this is stroller friendly and accessible. While you are there, enjoy this weather and see some of the other larger than life art installations.

The sunflower field itself by the whirligig does have walkways through it, but these are bumpy and not paved, and I would NOT say those inner pathways are stroller friendly or accessible.

I don’t know about you, but going for a stroll amongst these flowers was really just a pick-me-up I needed this week.

🌻Do you love sunflowers and zinnias just as much as us? Let us know in the comments!!🌻
