Whipporwill Park - Durham, NC

🚨NEW FENCED-IN PLAYGROUND ALERT🚨

Welcome to the brand new playground at Whipporwill Park in Durham, officially opened just this week!

And did I mention it’s totally fenced in? 🤣 (It’s a holy grail around here, so I have to hammer this point home!)

But in all seriousness, that’s only one of the great features of this new @dprplaymore playground. The park has flat, squishy ground. An accessible swing and ramps to get on play equipment. Lower-to-the-ground play features and equipment. A more accessible merry-go-round. Musical chimes.

On the whole, while there is technically a play structure for bigger kids, but I would say the equipment here favors younger kids.

There are benches at the park to sit, and signs are up that more tables and benches are coming and will be under the covered portion of the playground.

Speaking of coverage, while this playground is surrounded by trees, there is not much shade coverage over the equipment itself.

Other logistics and park features:

* Medium amount of parking in a loop around the playground. Could get full easily, though, with other amenities that are being used at the park, though, like tennis courts.

* Bathroom not far, but is separate from the playground, located by the fields.

* Baseball fields and tennis courts.

* Small stone checkers/chess tables.

* Paved greenway access along a small creek. Out and back this is about a mile.

* Just off the greenway, there is a tree-covered area with picnic tables and a pavilion.

Have you been to this new and revamped Durham playground? Let us know in the comments!
